Thanks to the generous volunteers and donors of our 2019 Angel Appeal Drive, the 2019 Alumni Softball Tournament, and a generous donation from Msgr. Louis Melancon, we have been able to transform the high school library into a modern center with activities and books for all ages. We are excited to be able to offer this to our students and faculty and invite you to stop by and visit.
The OCS BiblioTECH strives to help students become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, ethical users of information, and lifelong learners.
For the comfort of the patrons, the following policies are in effect:
• This is a place of QUIET for study, research, reading, and recollection. Activities, which disturb or distract others, will not be allowed. The center is not
a student lounge. Loud, boisterous behavior will not be tolerated at any time.
The computers located in the library are for academic use only and their use is governed by the same rules and regulations as computers located in classrooms and the computer labs. We reserve the right to restrict computer access to any student at any time for violation of any portion of the school’s computer use and Internet policies.
• No food or drink is to be brought into the library.
• The area behind the circulation desk is the facilitator's office. As in any private office, objects and materials here are of a personal or professional nature and are not to be disturbed.
• Failure to obey rules 1, 2, and 3 at any time may result in a student being asked
to leave the center and denied use for an extended period of time. Any violation of the school Internet /Technology Use Policies may also result in a loss of library privileges.
• Books may be checked out for a two-week loan period; these may be renewed
for one more additional two-week loan period.
• Overdue fines of $.10 per day for two-week loan items will be charged.
Checkouts:
• Students must have IDs to check out books from the school library.
• Students may check out up to three books at one time
(at least one book must be checked out or renewed during library class).
• Books may be checked out for a two week time period and renewed once for a total of four weeks (must have book to renew).
Returns:
• It is the student’s responsibility to make sure that his/her book is turned in on
time regardless of whether or not the teacher has a scheduled library class on that day or the student is absent on the day his/her class comes to the center.
• Students (parents) may receive overdue and/or fine notices by email.
• Fines are .10 cents per school day for overdue books, however students may return the book the day after it’s due and not accrue a fine (grace day).
• Fines of $5.00 or more will result in parents being contacted and checkout privileges being revoked until the overdue books are returned and the fines are paid.
• If a book is not returned or renewed on time, only one other book may be
checked out until the overdue book is returned or renewed and the fine is paid.
• If a book is more than two weeks overdue, you may not renew it; you must return it and check back the next school day before you can check it out again.
•If a book has already been renewed once, you must return it and check back the next school day before you can check it out again.
Repairs:
• Each student (along with parent) is responsible for the condition and return of
the library book once it is checked out from the library. Examine the book and
bring to the librarian’s attention any damages to the book prior to check out.
• If a book needs repairing please return it directly to the librarian; do not repair it yourself.
• Each student is responsible for the proper care of books checked out from the school library. Return the damaged book to the librarian (a replacement fee may
be charged).
• Keep books away from pets and younger siblings, never write or draw in a book, turn the pages carefully, carry the book carefully, and keep your book clean and
dry while transporting it.
• If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, only one other book may be checked out until book is found or the fee is paid.
• If a book is lost, then inform the librarian; the replacement fee should be paid within one week of reporting the book as lost. Failure to do so may result in Checkout privileges being revoked until the matter is resolved.
