Opelousas Catholic School, in the Diocese of Lafayette, Louisiana, is now accepting applications for the position of ATHLETIC DIRECTOR and HEAD FOOTBALL COACH for the 2023-2024 school year.
Overview
Opelousas Catholic is an inter-parish parochial school with roots extending back to the mid 1800’s through the former Academy of the Immaculate Conception, Holy Ghost High School, and St. Mary’s Academy. The school serves families in St. Landry Parish and surrounding areas with classes in PK3-12th grade. Over 600 diverse students call OCS home. Job Description
The Athletic Director will oversee all athletic programs for students in grades 5-12, both male and female athletes, as well as manage the full-time, part-time and volunteer coaching staff. The Athletic Director also oversees the financial structure of the athletic department and serves as a liaison to the Athletic Council Booster Club for fund-raising activities for all sports and all athletes. The Head Football Coach is responsible for all aspects of the football program and directly supervises and manages both the high school program and the elementary and junior high football programs to ensure a cohesive structure. Candidates should possess strong leadership skills, practice collaboration with coaches, parents, and teachers; have high expectations for student athletes; and align with the philosophy and vision of the school, the formation of true Christian student athletes with an emphasis on character development as well as athletic wins and losses. The Athletic Director/Head Football Coach reports directly to the principal, who in turn reports to the Chancellor and Pastors of the School.
The Director of Athletics and Head Football Coach should possess:
A personal commitment to academic excellence in a Catholic school environment, acknowledging that the school exists to provide Catholic education and that athletics are a privilege for students;
An understanding of the Christ-focused approach to athletics, integrating faith and service in all aspects of the athletic curriculum and program;
Creativity and the ability to motivate students, parents, and fellow faculty members;
Prior experience in leading an athletic program in a public or parochial school (preferred);
Successful teaching experience, with classroom teaching experience required;
Fiscal experience in managing budgets and assigning resources;
The ability to work with parents, alumni and the community to ensure strong community support for the programs and the school;
Successful experience in his/her field of athletics;
Proven leadership skills and an established network in the greater athletic community;
A respect for discipline as it manifests itself in the school setting;
The ability to collaborate with administrators, fellow faculty members, and school groups;
A commitment to continued professional development;
The ability to speak publicly, communicate with professional skills, both written and oral, and professional appearance and demeanor;
And an adherence to the mission, belief and goals of Opelousas Catholic School.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in job related area with teaching certification required.
