Opelousas Catholic School has adopted St. Mary's Catholic School in Orange, TX. The school and its families have suffered from the recent flooding of Hurricane Harvey. Today their principal Dr. Cynthia Ned Jackson stopped by Opelousas Catholic and received gifts from us ... 24 gift bags containing Walmart gift cards to help their teachers, students and families. As Mrs. Heintz said, God had a hand in leading us to St. Mary's. After Mrs. Heintz received a list of schools from the Diocese and found out that this school had not received help, she called St. Mary's ... and then learned that the principal was an Opelousas Catholic graduate! Dr. Jackson is a 1976 alumna ... remarkable! St. Mary's is a PK-8th grade school with 110 students. Dr. Jackson informed us that 80 percent of their faculty and students have lost their homes and vehicles. OCS is planning to send more help, including the school supplies which will be collected next week (Sept. 25-29). Following this, a group from Opelousas Catholic, including some seniors, will make a trip to the school to deliver the supplies. OCS and St. Mary's wish to thank everyone for the generosity and prayers!
