Opelousas Catholic School Principal Marty Heintz announces the appointment of Elizabeth Meche as Assistant Principal of Academics for the 2018-2019 school year.
"We are excited to have Liz join Assistant Principal of Elementary Studies Rose Lalonde, Dean of Students Willard Hanks, and myself as a member of the leadership team here at OC," noted Heintz. "Liz has been a valuable member of our team this year in her role as Curriculum Director for 9-12 as well as Guidance Counselor."
Meche attended Opelousas Catholic and graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart, going on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Communicative Disorders and a Master of Science in Counselor Education, both from UL-Lafayette. She has held state certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, a Certified Case Manager, and as a Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor.
After working in the private and public medical sector for 10 years, Meche began her teaching career in the public school system, teaching French and Physical Education. She moved to Opelousas Catholic the following year, where she taught Psychology, ACT Prep and Catholic Leadership. She became the school's guidance counselor in 2004.
"Liz, along with Rose Lalonde and 6-8th grade Curriculum Coordinator Matt Citron, has been a leader this year as we began the process of realigning our curriculum from PreK to 12th grade," said Heintz. "She has broadened the scope of our Dual Enrollment program so that our students can earn college credit while in high school, implemented new standardized testing at the high school level, and is now working on expanding our elective offerings."
She is married to James Bret Meche, and they are the parents of six children. Four of their children are Opelousas Catholic graduates, and the youngest two are current students. They are parishioners of St. Landry Catholic Church.
